Mail on Sunday exclusives
Nov / Dec 2008, March 2009, July 2009, December 2009 and March 2010
On 30th November 2008, the Mail on Sunday reported my exclusive research in exposing how a council in the South East of England had posted full details of a new highly sensitive MI5 spy centre on its planning permission web portal and how I had warned the MoD of this.Just one week later on 7th December 2008, I provided key research and analysis for MoS but in a departure from my usual themes. I linked a list of collapsed building society Northern Rock repossessions – found posted at an anonymous internet address – to the famous property guru Ajay Ahuja, who had been using them to make vast profits. It was the lead article splashed across the front page of the paper and was later picked up by all other media.
On 22nd March 2009, I was back to Secret Base hunting – I provided the key location and research material for the MoS exclusive "Stasi HQ UK". The story revealed the anonymous building on an industrial park near Heathrow Airport used as the controversial e-Borders project's Joint Borders Operations Centre, where passenger lists are trawled for suspicious activity. The story was immediately propelled through hundreds of news blogs and forum chat rooms.
But the JBOC was already due to change name and move to a new location in Manchester. Could I find it for another exclusive? You bet! Meanwhile ...
British Press Awards 2010 – "Scoop of the Year" nomination

Specialist Journalist of the Year at the British Press Awards 2010 |
I stepped up a gear on 5th July 2009 when I provided another front page world exclusive for Jason Lewis, Security and Whitehall Editor at the Mail on Sunday.
I revealed how the wife of incoming head of MI6 Sir John Sawers had posted intimate details of their family life all over the social networking site Facebook!
In February 2010, the story was nominated in the Scoop of the Year category for the British Press Awards 2010 held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London on 23rd March.
Not surprisingly, the actual award went to the Telegraph's story on the MPs' Expenses scandal but Jason Lewis did get Specialist Journalist of the Year – with a little help from his friend, I like to think!

On 27th December 2009 I worked my magic again by providing the MoS with key research linking the Climate Change leaked emails scandal – ahead of the Copenhagen Summit on Global Warming – to Chinese cyber warfare, when I traced the Russian server through Malaysia and onto Beijing.
By March 2010, exactly a year after the JBOC story, I was back to the e-Borders project and using my finely honed research techniques to uncover the new location "somewhere in Manchester" for the NBTC – National Border Targeting Centre.
